An hour later Irish Luck had been moved over to the bulkhead in front of the restaurant. They wanted to be away from Lindsay’s car which was now the center of attention for the State Police’s bomb squad. They had determined it did indeed have a similar device inside. The Kembe II and Golden Dolphin had both already left on their charters after their crews made sure Murph and Lindsay were okay. They had given statements to the authorities basically saying that they hadn’t seen anything or anyone suspicious around the vehicles.

The salon of Irish Luck was now crowded with people, including Murph, Lindsay, Sheriff Roberts of Northampton County, a major from the Virginia State Police, Casey Shaw, Rikki Jenkins, and two investigators from the FBI ACTeam. Tony was up on the flying bridge where he had a bird’s-eye view of anyone who might be approaching.

The lead FBI investigator addressed the group. “Okay, all the events of these last few days appear to be connected to the mall incident since it was the first one, but the question is ‘how?’ We are missing something, because Mr. Murphy wasn’t there until after the suspects left, and Ms. Davis had never seen them before. We never released her information prior to the airplane crash, but someone had to have had it. Assuming these devices are connected, and we have no reason to think otherwise, it is looking like Ms. Davis might have been the intended target. You two are known to frequently ride together, so whoever did this might have set the one in the pickup in case you did today. Were you scheduled to go anywhere this morning, the two of you together?”

Lindsay shook her head. “No. But we probably would have gone out to lunch or dinner together; we try to get off the boat and out of the marina at least once a day. We usually take Murph’s truck because it has more room. But I had no idea he was going anywhere this morning.”

“I saw Tony’s doughnut, so it was just a spur-of-the-moment idea to go get some for us, and for some friends on the dock. Not something I do all the time.”

The FBI agent scribbled in a pad as he listened. “Well, whoever did this probably already knows they missed. While we figure out why they want to kill you and until we find them, it would be a good idea for you both to keep your heads down. Do you have any other charters this week?”

Murph shook his head. “Nothing for the next two weeks, we blocked it out because of closing on the property in case the date got moved.”

“In that case I’d recommend you get away from here for a while and go somewhere where you might be hard to find. Meanwhile we’ll get this solved and apprehend those responsible.”
